Hello Mr. Jacobson...good post I might say, but have you tried volunteering instead of giving money?? I find it a most rewarding experience, specially in Mumbai..working with orphans there changed my point of view and life in general, made me fall in love with India and its people..

Hey buddy, good post. Definitely resonate with you on the challenges of responsible donating. I found your second point especially interesting, I tend to look at corporate sponsors/partnerships and major grants the org has won (if any), but rarely do I peruse the top individual donor lists.

Thanks so much for the misconception paragraph at the end, so very very true and important! I know everyone wants their dollars to go directly to books, water wells, and microloans, but obviously someone has to manage these programs. Which actually gets back to your 1st point, being willing to let your donation go to org salary and other overhead because you trust the people.
